Karla 2008

Due to my horror movie mania, (it should a sickness with it's own medical terminology), I have been watching all sorts of movies. Recently, I watched a movie named "Karla" realizing it was probably based on awful stories, not realizing it was based on actual events until I ran across the true life story on the ID channel's "Wicked Attraction". No explanations were found for either's extreme violent, abusive, or homicidal nature.

Karla's claim was that she had no choice, but she was never imprisoned nor never did not have the support of her family. She participated in the rape and killing of her own sister!! Geez, her poor parents and his poor parents. Also the poor parents of the girls who were raped, killed, and tortured after the sister's death. How do you ever get over it?

These "people" apparently both had very nice parents (read a book review since, may have been more than a little angst between the mother and male piece of shit). At least the stories did not find anything unusual in their backgrounds, except that the male found out at 15-16 that his "father" was not really his "father". Now we could all argue the terminology of father, but they did not imply there was any abuse or any real melt down regarding that. Hell, I have a nephew in the same situation. I am not saying he's the model of a psychologically healthy male, but it would completely take me back if he did anything even close to this. I am pretty sure he thinks his family sucks however. And, sadly, he would be right in many ways.

If anything though, I think it's made him want to be a better and good parent (and husband). He actually has two children now. I don't know that he even knows who his "father" is. My brother in law is the closest he has come to a father figure, and my brother in law has been involved in his life and continues this after the divorce. My nephew got a raw deal in so many ways, but I never imagine or have seen evidence that he would ever intentionally hurt anyone!!!

My husband's dad deserted his family when my husband was five. He is still alive, and I have actually seen him in a store with us. He doesn't even acknowledge his children. Yet my husband has one of the most loving natures that I know.

What happens with these people? Can people just be born this way without an environmental influence of some sort? Must be. My father in law had two adopted children from his first marriage that came out horribly in their nature, even though he sought to take care of them. It finally came to a head when furniture and cars were being sold off for drugs. Still he tried to be there for them when he could, even right up to the end of his life. But they never were nor became nice people. There were some influences there including my father in law's bipolar disease that cause a lot of hospitalization during his earlier life. I don't know what his ex wife was like at all. He never said anything one way or the other about her. That's always been a mystery to me, how can one person have two bad seeds and then four really great kids. Perhaps the absence of him can explain it with the first two in a little way.

These things scare the crap out of me, and would if I ever had children. Especially since normal kids can do things that are REALLY wrong in innocence. I recently also watched the Dahmer movie (I will have to look that up) which chronicles Jeffrey's father's experience and exploration during this time. Someone who thinks that much about what they might have contributed, was probably a pretty decent father. Further, I always thought it was admirable that he still loved his son after he knew. I don't know that I would be able to do that. Very good movie, but it won't explain it. What could really? I mean if you think about it and you are a "normal" person, what explanation would make you go "oh, okay, now I get why he tortured, killed, and later drank out of the skulls of people". Perhaps horrible abuse, but then you would need to believe that they went insane. Wouldn't you?

These stories, movies, real events really worry me about what surrounds me every day. Recently a teenage girl was almost abducted on her bike right here in the town where I live. Less than a mile away, a man was murdered by his long time friend during some drinking and drugs. There is no place that you can go that is "really" safe.

When I walk down these largely abandoned roads, I am aware of what I can use to strike or maim someone if they slow down. I don't get close to cars to give out directions, and say I just don't know. I don't allow people to stop and help me if I get a flat tire on the highway. If it isn't outright a police car flagging me down, I am not stopping.

Bottom line, there are some sick and evil people out there. They can come in both genders as well.

Presidential Sports

This presidential up and coming race is looking a lot like a sporting event to me, like the Superbowl, but a little more at stake than just winning a trophy LOL. Looks like Hillary is not going to make it as a nominee. Sadly that is who I was planning to vote for.

Obama has things going for him, but he's a bit slick for my tastes. I am also concerned about his lack of experience, although it could mean looking at the situation with fresh new eyes. Not necessarily a bad thing, but there is a learning curve there, and you don't want any newbie mistakes happening in the beginning. That could spell disaster. The Muslim thing, that doesn't worry me because Muslim does not = terrorist!!! He is an American and I don't believe he is a secret agent for either Pakistan or Iraq. In fact, I welcome someone who will not make Christianity the thought process for his decision making, and will probably stay well away from his religious issues. That is a plus. What is with the disastrous alliance with these priests though LOL? Though let's face it, if I was up for president, and you had interviewed say my grandmother (who BELIEVED SHE WAS NOT RACIST) you would have gotten some very newsworthy quotes. I would not have disowned my grandmother, so being these are old family friends, I do understand the logic.

So it may come down to Obama or McCain. Mr McCain has made some very funny yet questionable jokes when running for office. You can't help imagining this over the phone to some diplomat. Yikes. On the other hand, he seems "real" and you sees what you gets kind of a guy. Where Obama has a slickness which I am interpreting as kind of a fakeness, and not sure what you get when the race is over. I mean you don't know what McCain will be either, other than he is been in politics forever, and is pretty knowledgeable about foreign policy et at this key time. Which of course, brings us to his age and health. So, if I were to vote for him, I would be very interested in who his Vice President is. Guess that can't be Hillary, sigh.

Now if Hillary became aligned with Obama, that would have to seal the deal for me. I don't think Vice Presidents do not do anything, and she would at the least be a good sounding board with some experience, assuming they could work together. So you would have the "older" experience with the "fresher" outlook. It might be a good balance.

Not that it matters, but this would be a big historical moment too. First non white or male president (assuming Hillary can still win) and first female Vice President. I mean, I guess I could say non-white Vice President, but I really don't think Hillary can pull out of this. I may still write her in on my ticket though.

We shall see.

This Story Made Me Sick

What is wrong with some people? This is so lacking in compassion that it's very sick.

No Complaints

The Today show had an interesting piece about a book that has started a "no complaints for 21 days" movement. I found this interesting as my hubby is a chronic complainer, and I often think he would be happier if he complained less.

Me too, I probably have my share of things to complain about during the day, in fact I think I am sort of complaining now. It's interesting, but how about complaining thoughts? Now I am getting my A side of my personality, which I thought I squashed four years ago going LOL. The idea is to affect change in your behavior. Typically it takes about three months until you can identify a day that you didn't complain.

I don't know what I think about it. I guess first one would have to actually define complaining as less than all conflict. But again that's my type A, and it's probably a lot simpler than that LOL.
This blog is kinda one long complaint LOL, and I would certaintly need to change some subject matter. How would that go?

News Story Disagreement

Is this action punishable as a crime? Or was this an accident, albeit a tragic and terrible accident?

I am not a mother. I have dogs. I have not made this mistake with my dogs, but I can't honestly say that I couldn't picture circumstances that might cause this to happen. I say this is a horrible accident. My short term memory sometimes goes, and I can't remember what I was just watching. There was no intent to leave the child in the car. The intent was to bring the child to the babysitters after the change in routine. Unfortunately, the child was quiet and sleeping when mom went back to her routine.

It's horrible. It's horrible what happened to the child and the mother. My husband says it was a crime. I say it is an accident. It's not like the guy that went hunting, and intentionally left his kid in the car (who woke up, and in the dead of winter went looking for daddy). I think people forget how hectic and pressure filled parents have it, especially working parents. What do others say? Crime or accident? Unforgivable negligence?

On the other hand, with the tempature approaching the levels it is reported to, one would be thinking you would be repeating something over and over in your head, so as not to forget. If this was a non professional woman at Walmart, let's say would I or you feel the same?
